“They’re meaty…oh, oh, they’re meaty…OH!”
I love this campaign. And it’s not just the carnivore in me talking. Go Meat is a site developed for Hillshire Farms (a subsidiary of Sara Lee). I came across it the other night while watching television. A commercial came on with two woman eating lunch, one woman shakes some meat chunks on her salad and the sounds of a chant come out of the package,
so the other woman picks up the package and shakes out the rest of the meat and the chant continues like a bunch of cheerleaders. It’s cute and playfully ironic. At the end of the commercial a website flashed across the the bottom of the screen so naturally I grabbed my laptop.
Honestly there’s not much to do at the site. There are a few sections like Special Offers, Products and Recipes (which, if you can’t figure out what to do with pre-prepared meat products then you’re, well, pathetic.) There’s also a section dedicated to the commercial spots which are all pretty darn good and worth checking out.
The campaign does justice to the brand which is where many agencies miss the mark in online ventures. But how is the site doing? Well, in the few months it’s been around it’s been able to garner a decent page rank (5). I can’t tell at this point if they did any PPC advertising but they have enough organic inlinks to warrant a high page rank. All without metadata.
The advertising agency responsible for this campaign is TBWA/Chiat/Day, who incidentally is the agency responsible for the iPhone campaign. Needless to say, they know what they’re doing.
By the way, just a point of interest, the domain gomeat.com used to be owned by PETA (look at the archive from 2004). Did they profit by selling it to Hillshire Farms? Hummmm.

This morning I was reading my daily dose of The Thrillist, an email newsletter for men (presumably) in NYC. This morning’s email contained some links to a viral site created by Perrier, you know the bubbly water rich people drink in fancy restaurants. According to The Thrillist:
“Perrier […] has developed a site aggregating the best viral clips, separating the priceless time wasters from the stuff that’s simply a waste of your time. Each site is constantly updated and broken down by category, making it easier for, say, voyeurs of good-dates-gone-bad or fetishists of maniacal Easter bunnies, to find their heart’s desire.”
This is the way I imagine the board meeting playing out. The marketing department says “We need to do some web marketing.” Then the President and CEO of the company say “Oh yes, I’ve heard this is what everyone is doing.” Then the marketing department knowing that they know a little bit more about the online world than their bosses (they’ve watched the lonelygirl15 videos on YouTube and even commented on Techcrunch a couple times) say “Let’s do a Viral campaign.” The bosses nod their heads and say “Ok.”
With a little bit of knowledge and whole lot of gumption the marketing people set forth. And the finished product looks something like ShowMePerrier. A site dependent on User Generated Content and, cross your fingers, it’ll go viral. If it doesn’t go viral all on its own the marketers will plop some cash in sponsored advertising on local yellowpages sites.
What does any of this have to do with the Perrier brand? I have no idea. But I have to admit the videos are pretty darn funny.

Viral marketing site for the Simpsons Movie and Burger King, Simpsonize Me, although currently down is sure to be an awesome addition to one of the best marketing campaigns I’ve seen in awhile. Including of course the transformation of a handful of 7-11’s across the country into Kwik-E-Marts, one of which in our fine town of NYC currently resides on 42nd Street. Apparently the site is experiencing too much traffic. Boo. They are unable to Simpsonizeme at this time.

I’m going to keep trying to access the site. If you get to it before me shoot me a line and send me your Simpsonized self.
UPDATE: The site is back up. Make sure that the photo you upload is fairly large and it would probably be best to crop out the background. You also may have to resubmit your image a few times, I kept getting an error “all slots are in use”, whatever that means.
You know what, this sucks. I’ve tried to upload my image 4 times now and I keep getting the “all slots are in use” error or as you can see in last screenshot below a terminal “loading” page. In my opinion they should have anticipated the amount of traffic the site would get and prepared plenty of bandwidth or “slots”.
UPDATE #2: I finally (sort of) got it working. I was able to Simpsonize myself but it was difficult to download the image. And impossible to email the image through the site. Ugh. Well, check me out…

Aw, I’m kinda cute. Ralph Wiggum here I come!

We all watched the brilliant Mentos video with the two guys in lab coats orchestrating a sort-of symphony with Mentos and Diet Coke which lead to an episode of MythBusters (my favorite show!) Now Mentos has come up with a new viral site: Trevor the Mentos Intern.
In a small, unmarked office in the U.S. headquarters of Mentos maker Perfetti Van Melle in Erlanger, you’ll find a 19-year-old summer intern named Trevor Day working from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
But this isn’t your typical summer internship. On a recent workday, Day’s tasks included making prank calls and wake-up calls, dispensing marital advice, doing an interpretive dance about being a tree, leading a yoga class, composing and performing a love rap for someone’s girlfriend and filling his mouth with as many Mentos as possible. [via The Enquirer]
The site was created by iChameleon Group
who of course added their name to site’s meta data. Other than their shameless meta self promotion the site is awesome. The domain was purchased on May 14th and seems to already have taken off judging from the Alexa ranking and search results.
Brand awareness? Yes. Am I going to go out and buy some Mentos? Probably not. But it’s worth checking out.

~Wanna go a few innings with David Wright? Me neither. Only if I could bring someone, like say Derek Jeter to team up with (get your minds out of the gutter, not for a threesome). Vitamin Water and David Wright of the New York Mets (boo) have teamed up for a co-branded website and contest at David Wright or Wrong. You enter your info (sorry only for NY and NJ residents) then you take a short quiz to see how well you know David Wright. Unfortunately the quiz was not configured completely so I ended up at a blank page… (click on thumbnail to enlarge)

~BP has launched a website to presumably reposition themselves in this ever increasing eco-conscious market. Called A Little Better Gas Station it’s super cartoonish, are they trying to appeal to toddlers? Not sure but when I read, “so… we are making our gas stations a little better. and we are helping to make our world a little cleaner. but what other little actions could we all do?” Well, let’s start with reducing our dependence on fossil fuels for one. I think Al Gore just threw up in his mouth a little bit. Don’t get me started.
~Where are the Joneses is a site sponsored by Ford including a wiki which, according to Adrants, is a “‘daily interactive online sitcom’ […] which allows any viewer to change the storyline, character, setting, location or any other element of the sitcom.” [via Adrants]
~I LOVE this one, Relearn to Drive launched by BMW of North America. It covers the gamut of characters/personalities and all the bad advice people give when you’re learning how to drive. Each character says a couple different lines when you mouse over them then if you click on them you get a 20 second video that’s absolutely hilarious.
